Taiwan Complementary Medicine Society, Department of Healthcare Administration and Department of Food Nutrition and Health Biotechnology at Asia University have signed a Memorandum of Agreement

In response to the emergence of the super-aged society, we will cooperate to promote the Competency Standards for Health Guidance Technician in the “Taiwan Complementary Medicine Specific Complementary Therapy”.

        The Department of Healthcare Administration, Departments of Food Nutrition and Health Biotechnology at Asia University have signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the Taiwan Complementary Medicine Society during the summer. Together, they will promote the Competency Standards for Health Guidance Technician in the “Taiwan Complementary Medicine Specific Complementary Therapy”. In response to the upcoming super-aged society, they will strengthen their collaboration through an industry-academic partnership model, using evidence-based research results to promote the complementary medical standards for elderly care.
        Chen Taoming (陳韜名), the President of the Taiwan Complementary Medicine Society, has highly recognized Asia University’s academic achievements. As a result, they have invited the faculty and students from the Departments of Healthcare Administration and Department of Food Nutrition and Health Biotechnology to collaborate in establishing the competency for Health Guidance Technician in Taiwan Complementary Medicine Specific Complementary Therapy.” This collaboration aims to contribute to the legalization of complementary medical therapies, the revision of relevant regulations governing the practice and employment of related technicians, and the alignment with the international standards for complementary therapies. This approach seeks to transform complementary medicine into a campus-based discipline, providing professional faculty training course, and curriculum development, and response to the emergence of super-aged society by strengthening the lifestyles of health and sustainability in the community.
        Li Mingming(李明明), the chairwoman of the Department of Food Nutrition and Health Biotechnology at Asia University, pointed out that the establishment of the Health Guidance Technicians in the field of complementary medicine included Functional Nutritional Therapist, Mind-Body-Emotion Wellness Consultants, and Traditional Chinese Herbal Therapist. These specialists align with the expertise of our department’s students. Particularly, Taiwan is currently experiencing a changing in population structure characterized by an increasingly aging population, combined with the growing work-related stress, gradual health decline and chronic immune inflammation has affected people's quality of life and placing a burden on government healthcare resources. Therefore, apart from using mind-body-emotion care to relieve stress, individuals often turn to health supplements for adjusting their physical condition. In recent years, our faculty and students have utilized local natural materials to develop various health-related products, substantiating their effectiveness through research, which notably aligns with the requirements of health guidance technicians.
Jiun-Yi Wang (王俊毅), the chairman of the Department of Healthcare Administration, stated that graduates from the department specialize in health guidance techniques for senior citizens and elderly long-terms care, particularly in long-term care facilities and senior citizen health centres. Therefore, the establishment of the Health Guidance Technicians can thereby expand the industry demand for student employment.
Huang Shengxiong(黃聖雄), the director of Wansheng Biotechnology and Hesheng Mushroom Farm (萬生生技, 禾生菇菌場) who attended the event, expressed their hopes to collaborate with Asia University to promote certification of senior-friendly food products. This would involve using experimental design results as evidence-based guidance for public consumption, eliminating exaggerated and unsubstantiated therapies, and strengthening elderly care resources within the community.
