The short list for the awards of the 2015 2nd International Poster Biennale in Italy was announced recently, with a nomination probability of 8.3%. The list includes three designers in Taiwan. One of them is Hong-Ying Huang, a student from the Visual Communication Department (VCD) at Asia University (AU), who has three artistic works nominated with the subjects of war and freedom. He was the participant author which has the largest number of artistic works shortlisted for the awards according to the list. “This year’s topics of the biennale exhibition can be broken down further into categories, war and freedom and there are 184 nominated works selected from the 2200 submitted ones,” said the chair of the VCD, Prof. Hsing-Min Hsieh. The winners will be announced on December 8. The advisor of Hong-Ying Huang, Professor Ming-Long Yu, mentioned that The competition is intensive this year with 2200 participating poster design works, and the participants are mostly professional designers or teachers. “Therefore, Chen’s works entitled “Pollution” actually surpass the standard of common students’ works,” said Yu. Hong-Ying Huang himself said, “I am very glad that the reviewers appreciate my artistic works that express the sadness and fear of the descendants of human beings caused by the environment pollution left by modern people.” He mentioned also that his works try to show the importance of environmental protection based on his in-depth vision --- ‘environment is the root, and humanity is the base’.” Chair Hsieh mentioned that under the supervision of the famous designer Prof. Pan-Song Lin, and Huang’s advisor, Professor Ming-Long Yu, the harvest of the students of the VCD at AU in international competitions in recent years is truly encouraging, including 12 Red Dot Design Awards, two G-Mark Design Awards from Japan, and a bronze award and a merit award given by International Poster Biennale held in Mexican. “It is really commendable that Hong-Ying Huang’s three artistic works are nominated in this competition,” said Chair Hsieh.
