AU selected 39 students to join the Fourth “International-exchange Summer Program in Malaya University” where they studied with students from Japan, Thailand, and Vietnam in Malaya University, a top school in Malaysia. The program lasted four weeks, from Aug. 4 to Aug. 30. Professor Yu-Ming Rau, from the college of Foreign Languages, taught students to learn the ethnicities in Malaysia through facial features and asked the student representatives to introduce their motherlands. These activities enable students to quickly acquaint with one another and learn their cultural differences. Yi-Sheng Hsieh, a student representative from Asia University, showed his friendliness by inviting foreign students to visit Asia University.
Professor Sharija and Instructor Aina Azlin from Malaya University used active and lively methods to strengthen the students’ English abilities. In the class, the teachers asked the students to draw their favorite national scenes on papers and introduced them to the class. In this way, each student can practice his/her speaking ability by telling a story from the drawing. An AU student, Yu-Tsz Liou from the Department of Business Administration and Huan-Yu Liou from the Department of International Business drew the shape of the island of Taiwan and marked tourists’ favorite spots on it. In the class, they used English to introduce the Asian Modern Museum of Art, whose construction difficulty is not second to Taipei 101 or the Luce Chapel in Taichung. They both emphasized that a visit to Asia University is definitely worthwhile. After the class, Jiun-Ping Chang, a section director of the CIAE (the Center for International Academic Exchange) of Asia University, took the students to dine in the Jalan Alor market and to take pictures of the landmark buildings in Kuala Lumpur. Two AU students Ming-Yu Tsai and Jiun-Yo Hsieh thought the summer program was wonderful because it enabled them to make foreign friends and experience foreign cultures. They thanked Asia University for providing this unforgettable trip.
