2016 University Expo. took place in the gymnasium of National Taiwan University (NTU) on Feb. 27-28. The newly-extabished Depts. of Audiology & Speech Pathology as well as Occupational Therapy at Asia University (AU) provided an electronic larynx sounder, a middle-ear analyzer, an impedance audiometer, and some hearing-aid equipments for visiting students and their parents to experience. In addition, AU announced that scholarships of maximum amounts of up to 4.8 Million NT dollars will be offered to new qualified AU students. The Chair of the Dept. of Audiology and Speech Pathology at AU, Prof. Sheng Hwa Chen, said that the graduates of Audiology and Speech Pathology Dept. and Occupational Therapy Dept. at AU can get licenses of speech, language, or occupational therapists via national grade examinations. “Currently, a great number of professionals of speech pathology are needed in Taiwan or even in the world, and the monthly salary of this job is relative high in Taiwan in the range of 40~60 thousands NT dollars,” said Chair Chen. “The high-amount scholarships offered by AU are not only visible but also obtainable!” said Vice President and Dean of Academic Affairs at AU, Prof. Ta-Cheng Chen. He added that if a new student of AU gets a full mark of 75 or is ranked in the first 3% in the the General Scholastic Ability Test (part of the university entrance examination), he/she can get the highest scholarship of 4.8 million NT dollars, including 3.6 million as an award for the good test grade and 1.2 million as a fellowship for seeking a joint dual degree offered by a sister overseas university of AU or for a PhD degree. In the past four years, two students of AU have been awarded 3.6 million and three awarded 1.6 million of such scholarships.
Vice President Ta-Cheng Chen emphased as well that AU has completed the construction of a university-associated hospital which will be opened in August of this year. He said that The 3-year-old Nursing Department at AU can realize a student’s dream of becoming a promising nurse at the AU Hospital after graduation with a garanteed monthly salary of 50K NT dollars which is a high pay for a bachelor graduate into the society in Taiwan. “Additionally, the Dept. of Optometry at AU has a cooperation agreement with Kobayashi Glasses Company in the industry, offering job opportunities for graduates of the department,” sad Chen, “and AU has also signed agreements with 103 other industrial companies to offer more than 1000 jobs for AU graduates.” It is worth mention that heading to the 15th year of school establishment, AU has been evaluated one of the teaching excellence universities by the Ministry of Education (MOE) for 11 straight years, and that the famous UK Times Higher Education (THE) World Ranking has reported the top-100 universities in Asia every year; and Asia University, being 15 years old only, is in the list of 2015. Furthermore, evaluated by the Cheers Magazine as a rising new star among the private universities, AU is ranked within the first five for the 2nd time in the list of top 20 best school-running universities in Taiwan.
