The famous American magazine, U.S. News & World Report, reported the 2017 ranking result of the best universities in the world on October 25. In Taiwan, national Universities are ranked to be leading as expected, with the listed top three schools being National Taiwan University, National Cheng Kung University and National Tsing Hua University. The two universities, Asia University (AU) and China Medical University (CMU), of the “China Asia Associated University (CA2)," are ranked respectively No. 1 and No. 5 best private universities according to the ranking list. This means that AU is already recognized globally as a leading university in the world for its great performances in school running in recent years.

The dean of R&D of AU, Professor Chih-Yang Huang, said that the ranking is based on the achievements of the evaluated universities in five aspects, including teaching, research, internationalization, academic reputation, as well as the number of citations per paper and the number of papers per faculty. These parameters coincide with the goal of AU set by the founder of AU, Prof. Chang-Hai Tsai, namely, the establishment of a globally-recognized research university with good teaching quality. It is mentioned by the way that Prof. Tsai is also the chairman of the board of directors of CMU.

It is worth mention that the magazine Global Views Monthly, well known in Taiwan, reported recently as well the 2016 ranking result of the best universities in Taiwan. And AU is ranked to be No. 26 among all the national and private universities. It is emphsized that AU is the youngest one in the list, only 16 years old! Furthermore, AU has also become a university with the honor of being within five distinck lists of “top -100’s in the world” according to five different rankings of the UK Times Higher Education (THE) Reports.

The president of AU, Prof. Jeffrey J. P. Tsai, mentioned that to enter the various lists of “top-500 best universities in the world” has been a goal of school running of AU. In addition, in recnet years the China Asia Associated University (CA2) has been seen to foster effectively the excellence of school running of both universities. Specifically, this union allows the students of AU and those of CMU to enjoy the shared resources of teaching, research, and campus life of the two universities, making the slogan “entering one school to enjoy two schools’ resources” come true. Furthermore, the two schools also cooperate in the research projects of the Internet of things (IOT), 3D printing, Internet addiction prevention and treatment, big data analysis, etc., making the involved AU students more competitive in the society when they obtain their degrees. Finally, AU has just completed the construction of a university hospital and opened it to the public in the last month, which may be used as a teaching and research platform in addition to offering medical services to the local people in the great Taichung City area.

In 1983, U.S. News & World Report published its first "America's Best Colleges" report. The rankings have been compiled and published annually since 1987 and are the most widely quoted of their kinds in the United States. These rankings are based upon the data that the U.S. News & World Report collects from each educational institution from an annual survey sent to each school. The rankings are also based upon opinion surveys of university faculties and administrators who do not belong to the schools.
