A group of students of Asia University (AU) took part in the 2016 Taipei International Invention Show & Technomart Exhibition and won 2 gold and 2 bronze medals, creating a resounding victory. One of the works “Dehydrating Shoes” designed by Ya-Syuan Ke, a student of the Fashion Design Department, and another work “Shopping Cart” by Huei-Ling Li and Li-Ting Huang, two students also from the Creative Product Design Department, won respectively gold medals. In addition, the works “Motorcycle Warning Ledge” designed by four students, Yan-Zhang Ciou, Mei-Jyun Jiang, Yu-Jhen Jhong and Ya-Jhou Luo Lai, of the Creative Product Design Department; and the work “Extendible Diffuser Tube” by a student Shin-Yi Tsai of the Health Management Department and an alumni Yi-Fun Chen of the Creative Product Design Department, won respectively bronze medals in 2016 Taipei International Invention Show & Technomart Exhibition. The work “Dehydrating Shoes” designed by Ya-Syuan Ke, a student of the Fashion Design Department, won also a gold medal in the 2016 International Invention, Innovation and Technology Exhibition in Malaysia and a bronze medal in the French invention contest, Concours Lepine. Ya-Syuan Ke said that her work of shoes has a drainage function for water on the top of the shoe to go quickly through specially-designed in-shoe channels to the bottom of the shoe. It is in this way that the shoes’ comfort and durability can be promoted. Also gold-medal winning is the work “Easily-foldable Shopping Cart” designed by Huei-Ling Li and Li-Ting Huang, two students of the Creative Product Design Department. The cart, once folded, is easy to carry and its ledge is good for laying the carrier’s hand. This can help the carrier to reduce the need of bending his/her body while shopping. In the past few years, many students of AU, forming various design teams, win quite a lot of famous international design or invention awards. A total of 300 medals have been obtained by AU participation teams, including 90 gold,102 silver, 75 bronze medals, as well as 32 special awards, which is really a miracle because AU’s design-related departments are all very young! AU has so become a target university for seeking degrees of many high-school students who select “design” as their goal of carrer development.
