Prof. Pang-Soong Lin is a chair professor of the Department of Visual Communication Design at Asia University (AU), and also the principal investigator of the national project “Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC).” The other day, Prof Lin represented AU to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Ms. Mariana Amatullo, the President of Cumulus, in January, 2020. The MOU is aimed to facilitate international exchanges and build an academic partnership with Cumulus. In December 2019, Ms. Amatullo came to Taiwan to join the 2019 TISDC Award Ceremony. She also acted as a presenter to give the International Design Association Special Prize to the winning students. Additionally, Prof. Jenz Grosshans (Großhans) from Koeln (Köln) International School of Design in Germany was recommended by Cumulus to act as the judge of the Digital Animation Category in the TISDC competition. During the final decision of the winners, Prof. Grosshans shared to the participating people the concepts of the organization of Cumulus and the promotion plan for art and design education. Moreover, he does look forward to cooperating with AU in the future to facilitate international design exchanges.
Cumulus, also known as International Association of Universities and Colleges of Art, Design and Media, was established in 1990, and consists of over 286 members from 57 countries worldwide. Cumulus is the global association that aims to devote the research and development of art and design education to provide a wide range of international resources for academic exchanges and cooperations. The collaborators that partnered with Cumulus are top-level universities from all parts of the world, including Danish Design School in Danish, Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Netherlands, the University of Duisburg-Essen in Vienna, and the University of Applied Arts Vienna in Austria. “It was an honor to AU to sign an MOU with the famous international association-Cumulus,” emphasized Prof. Lin. The MOU signed by AU and Cumulus will bring the two sides more chances of mutual cooperations further, and in the meantime, it could create more interactions between AU and Cumulus to stimulate the students’ cohesion for design. With the MOU, it does not only offer varieties of resources of art and design education to professors and students at AU, but also bring new international perspectives to their thoughts. As a result, AU hopes to enlarge its scope of interactions with international institutions to continue together passionately for the success of the Talent of the Youth through signing of the MOU.
