（Asia University, Taiwan） Asia University (AU) President Jing-Pha Tsai, AU Library Director Shu-Chuan Liao, and seven student leaders of the university joined the 6th University Scholars Leadership Symposium in Hong Kong on Aug. 1. President Tsai said that this is the first time that AU students are invited by the organization of Humanitarian Affairs United Kingdom to take part in the symposium and share experiences with more than 800 students from 56 countries on the global issues of promoting social enterprises and reducing the gap between the rich and the poor around the world.

The 6th University Scholars Leadership Symposium in Hong Kong is sponsored by Humanitarian Affairs United Kingdom which was set up in England in1985 as a social enterprise, and is a member of the World Association of Non-Governmental Organizations (WANGO) and the World Alliance for Citizens Participation (CIVICUS).

Humanitarian Affairs United Kingdom realized the importance of inspiring and cultivating youth leaders, and started to hold the University Scholars Leadership Symposium every year from 2010, with the vision of promoting international university leadership exchanges through personal involvement and service learning. In this way, it is hoped that the participating student leaders can recognize the worldwide problems faced by the poor and disadvantaged minorities and understand the responsibility and meaning of “being an international citizen,” and so can initiate relevant reformations by their expertise in respective fields.

The seven AU student delegates include Chien-Yung Hsu and Yi-Hsuan Li from the Dept. of Foreign Languages and Literature; Pei-Hsuan Hsu, Yun Chai and Shih-Wen Li from the Dept. of Psychology; Hsin-Yi Liang from the Dept. of Bioinformatics and Medical Engineering; and Feng-Chi Lai from the Dept. of Leisure and Recreation Management. More than 30 other Taiwan students also participate the symposium, who come from China Medical University, Tsinghua University, Feng Chia University, Yuan Ze University, and Shih Chien University.

President Jing-Pha Tsai said that the theme of this symposium is “enrich, educate and enlighten,” emphasizing training of the participants on the four topics of personal development, communication technique, professional expression, and self-actualization. The symposium invites eminent experts in the world to give speeches, like Michelle Kim, who is a famous TED speaker and a 2013 outstanding lady in Hong Kong; and Chandran Nair, who is the founder and CEO of Hong Kong Global Institute for Tomorrow.

During the symposium, the participating student representatives have also taken a “Learning Journey” to join local communities and learn what they can do for the world through first-hand experiences. The AU students played an active part in this symposium, showing their strong willingness and effort to join international exchanges. They returned to the Asia University with fruitful experiences and were willing to share what they have learned with other students in the school.
